About this place

Tappuah (also known as En-tappuah) was a Canaanite city located on the border between the territories of Ephraim and Manasseh. It is first mentioned in the list of cities conquered by Joshua (Josh. 12:17). During the allotment of the land, Tappuah itself was assigned to Manasseh, but the land surrounding the city belonged to Ephraim (Josh. 16:8; 17:8). The city served as a boundary marker between the two tribes (Josh. 17:7-8). The name "Tappuah" means "apple" or "apple tree," possibly indicating the presence of fruit trees in the area. The prefix "En-" suggests that the city may have been associated with a spring or well.
