Who he was
Azariah son of Johanan stands in the line of the high priests: “Johanan became the father of Azariah, who executed the priest’s office in the house that Solomon built in Jerusalem” (1 Chronicles 6:10). He was the father of Amariah (1 Chronicles 6:11), and Ezra's own genealogy runs through him (Ezra 7:3). He is distinct from his grandfather of the same name, Azariah son of Ahimaaz (1 Chronicles 6:9).
