ISBE dates Pompey's capture of Jerusalem to the Passover of 63 BC, in its articles on the Asmoneans, the Dispersion and Jesus Christ (its Old Testament chronology prints 56 BC, against them). The Roman rule that begins here is the world of the Gospels. ISBE's article “Asmoneans” (1915) gives 63 BC.
