How we know the date

ISBE's New Testament chronology dates the Gospels by this event but does not print the year; Easton's gives A.D. 70, when the city fell to the Romans. Easton's (1897), under “Jerusalem” gives AD 70. ISBE (1915), whose reckoning this stretch of the timeline follows, does not date it, so no single year is shown and the event is placed by its order in the narrative, between the years quoted.

The sources, word for word

“At the close of this period they fell under the rule of Herod and of members of his family, but practically under Rome, till the time of the destruction of Jerusalem, A.D. 70.”

Easton's Bible Dictionary (1897) · JERUSALEM · gives AD 70
