What Information We Collect

When you use Gospel Companion, we collect:

• Account Information: Your email address and display name when you create an account
• Bible Reading Data: Your bookmarks, highlights, notes, and reading history to sync across your devices
• Gospel Conversations: Records of gospel sharing conversations you choose to save
• Usage Data: Basic app usage information to help improve the app (like which features you use)
• Sage questions and answers: The questions you ask Sage, the Bible and study sources the app chose for them, and the answers Sage gave. See Sage and AI processing below.
• Subscription status: If you subscribe to Companion Unlimited, whoever took the payment — Apple for a purchase made in the iOS app, Stripe for one made on this website — sends us the subscription's status, plan, renewal date and transaction identifiers so we can turn the feature on and off. For website purchases we also store the billing country Stripe collects, which is used to work out tax. We never see or store your card details; they are entered on the payment provider's own page, never ours.
• Your progress: Scripture Memory progress and your own memory verses, Manna items you save, guided-study answers, your New Christian path (steps ticked and chapters of John read), your answer to "where are you on the journey", and your Sage conversation history — saved to your account so they follow you to every device.
• Questions to a person: If you use "Ask a real person" on the New Christian path, the name, email address and question you type, so someone can write back.
• Email series: If you ask for "Your first 30 days", your email address, first name, time zone and preferred hour, and which day you're on.
• Notifications: If you turn on the daily verse or other reminders, the device token needed to deliver them.

Sage and AI Processing

Sage is Gospel Companion's study companion. When you ask Sage a question, the app first gathers the relevant sources on your device — Bible verses, our examinations and studies — and sends your question together with those sources to Anthropic, whose Claude models generate the answer. Anthropic processes this data on our behalf under its commercial API terms, which do not permit it to use your questions to train its models.

We keep a record of each question and answer, linked to your account, so we can review answer quality against our accuracy standard, investigate abuse, and count your monthly allowance. Sage's answers are generated by software and can be wrong; every claim is tied to a cited source so you can check it. Sage is not a pastor, counsellor or medical professional. Write to support@gospelcompanion.app to have your Sage records deleted at any time.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Create and maintain your account
• Sync your Bible reading data across your devices
• Save your bookmarks, highlights, and notes
• Improve the app and fix bugs
• Answer your Sage questions and count your monthly allowance
• Verify and manage your Companion Unlimited subscription
• Send the emails and notifications you asked for — and stop them when you say so
• Reply to questions you send to a real person

We will never:

• Sell your data to anyone
• Show you ads
• Share your personal information without your permission
• Use your data for anything beyond making the app work better

How We Store Your Information

Your data is securely stored using Firebase (Google Cloud), which provides:

• Industry-standard encryption
• Secure data centers
• Regular security updates
• Compliance with privacy regulations

Your Privacy Rights

You have complete control over your data:

• Access: View all your data anytime in the app
• Edit: Update your profile information whenever you want
• Delete: Delete your account and all data permanently at any time
• Export: Your bookmarks and notes are always accessible in the app

To delete your account, visit the Data Deletion page or go to Profile → Delete Account in the app.

Third-Party Services

Gospel Companion uses these trusted services:

• Firebase/Google Cloud: For secure data storage and authentication
• Bible API: To provide Bible translations and verses
• Anthropic: To generate Sage's answers from the sources the app supplies (see Sage and AI Processing)
• Apple App Store: To handle Companion Unlimited payments made in the iOS app, and tell us whether a subscription is active
• Stripe: To handle Companion Unlimited payments made on this website, and tell us whether a subscription is active. Stripe processes your card details and billing address under its own privacy policy
• Resend: To deliver the emails you ask for, such as "Your first 30 days"

These services have their own privacy policies and security measures to protect your data.

Children's Privacy

Gospel Companion is suitable for all ages. If you're under 13, please have a parent or guardian help you create an account.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy occasionally. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you through the app or via email. The "Last Updated" date at the top shows when the policy was last changed.
