Mishal, also known as Mashal, was a city allotted to the tribe of Asher (Joshua 19:26). It was later designated as a Levitical city, given to the Gershonites (Joshua 21:30; 1Ch.6.74). The Levites, who were not allotted a specific territory, were given cities throughout Israel to dwell in, along with pasture lands for their livestock (Numbers 35:1-8).
