Shemariah was a son of King Rehoboam of Judah and his wife Abihail, the daughter of Eliab. According to 2 Chronicles 11:19, Shemariah was born to Rehoboam along with his brothers Jeush and Zaham. Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, was the first king of the southern kingdom of Judah after the division of the united monarchy. The mention of Shemariah and his brothers highlights the royal lineage of Rehoboam and the continuation of the Davidic dynasty in Judah.
