Who he was

Shema is mentioned in Nehemiah 8:4 as one of the men who stood beside Ezra the scribe when he read the Book of the Law to the people in Jerusalem. The event took place during the Feast of Tabernacles after the Israelites had returned from Babylonian exile. Shema, along with several others, was stationed on a wooden platform with Ezra as he read and explained the Law to the assembled people.
