Who he was

Obadiah was one of the leaders who returned to Jerusalem from the Babylonian exile along with Ezra (Ezra 8:9). He was a descendant of Joab, indicating his lineage from the tribe of Judah. Obadiah was among those who joined Ezra in his journey from Babylon to Jerusalem, which took place during the reign of King Artaxerxes of Persia. The return led by Ezra aimed to restore the worship and practices of the Jewish faith in Jerusalem after the exile.
