Nathan

Nathan is mentioned in Ezra 8:16 as one of the leaders summoned by Ezra, a priest and scribe, to assist in teaching the Law of God to the people of Israel. This event took place during the reign of King Artaxerxes of Persia, after Ezra had led a group of exiles back to Jerusalem.

Upon arriving in Jerusalem, Ezra discovered that many of the Israelites, including priests and Levites, had not been following the Law of Moses and had intermarried with the neighboring pagan peoples. Ezra took steps to address this issue and to restore proper worship and obedience to God's commands.

As part of this effort, Ezra assembled a group of leaders, including Nathan, to help instruct the people in the Law. These leaders were chosen for their understanding and ability to teach others. Ezra "sent for Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zechariah and Meshullam, who were leaders, and for Joiarib and Elnathan, who were men of learning" (Ezra 8:16).
