Jekamiah is mentioned in the genealogy of Judah in 1 Chronicles. He was the son of Shallum, who was a descendant of Sheshan, from the clan of Jerahmeel. The genealogy traces Jekamiah's lineage back to Judah, one of the twelve sons of Israel (or 'Jacob').
