Who he was
Hamul was a son of Perez and a grandson of Judah, one of the twelve sons of Israel (or 'Jacob') (Genesis 46:12; 1 Chronicles 2:5). He was born to Perez, who was the son of Judah and Tamar (Genesis 38:29). Hamul is mentioned in the genealogy of Judah, which is recorded in the book of Genesis when Jacob and his family moved to Egypt during the famine (Genesis 46:12). He is also listed in the census of the Israelites taken in the wilderness of Sinai (Numbers 26:21). The descendants of Hamul, known as the Hamulites, are mentioned as one of the clans of the tribe of Judah (Numbers 26:21).
