Who he was

Elah is mentioned in Genesis 36:41 and 1 Chronicles 1:52 as one of the chiefs of Edom, a nation descended from Esau, the brother of Israel (or 'Jacob'). The Edomites were the descendants of Esau who settled in the region southeast of Judah. Elah is listed among the chiefs who ruled in Edom before any king reigned over Israel.
