Who he was

Bedad is mentioned in Genesis 36:35 and 1 Chronicles 1:46 as the father of Hadad, one of the kings of Edom. The context of these passages is the genealogy of Esau, who was also known as Edom. The list of Edomite kings is given to show the political development of Esau's descendants before Israel had a king. Hadad, Bedad's son, is described as the king who defeated the Midianites in the land of Moab.
