Who she was
Lot's wife is not named in the Bible. She was the wife of Lot, the son of Abraham's brother Haran (Genesis 11:27), and was with him in Sodom when the angels came. At dawn they urged Lot to take his wife and his two daughters and flee, and when he lingered they took him, his wife and his daughters by the hand and brought them out of the city (Genesis 19:15–16), with the warning, “Escape for your life! Don’t look behind you…” (Genesis 19:17). As Yahweh rained sulfur and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, “Lot’s wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt” (Genesis 19:24–26). Jesus held her up as a warning: “Remember Lot’s wife!” (Luke 17:32).
